European Tour

9th - 11th of June, European Tour of five recently built hospitals (status: fully booked)

Explore the variety of hospital architecture in Europe in this three day tour directly following  the congress! The tour will showcase recent high-profile projects (newly built or renovation schemes) in the Netherlands, Belgium and Spain and feature presentations and site tours under the guidance of local architects and local staff. A number of themes will be addressed: outpatient department concepts and routing, the use of information technology to optimize hospital efficiency, sustainability and last but not last some beautiful examples in Barcelona of high-quality redevelopments of heritage sites.

Included in the tour are the following hospitals:

  • Deventer Hospital (Deventer) – spectacularly designed public spaces, smart lay-out of patient logistics and outpatient department, ecologically sustainable hospital.
  • Orbis Medical Park (Sittard) – Built as the “Hospital of the 21st century” care pathway driven design, IT-integrated hospital concept, all single rooms patient wards.
  • AZ Groeninge (Kortrijk) – 350 bed hospitals designed by Austrian and Belgian architects around concepts of sustainability and flexibility, high-quality interior architecture, daylightassisted patient & staff way finding concepts.
  • Hospital del Mar (Barcelona) – redevelopment of ocean front hospital site; trace decades of building history and discover the latest add-ons. Direct natural light in IC-units and a wonderful medical campus.
  • Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau (Barcelona) – cultural heritage and modern architecture combined in one site visit. Beautifully detailed old pavilion-style hospital and modernistic stone-cladded brand new hospital in the city center of Barcelona – a must see!

    This unique tour has limited capacity and is truly one of a kind. Included in the tour are transport (by bus and air), local taxes, site visits, **** hotels and most meals. The tour will start in Rotterdam and end in Barcelona (Spain). This will give you the opportunity to extend your stay in Barcelona for the weekend.     The post congress European tour will be separately organized and has limited capacity. Applications will be dealt with on a first come, first served basis. The post congress European tour requires a minimum number of twenty participants. The tour will be hosted by members of DuCHA and local co-organisers.The Post Congres European tour is offered to you at a price of 770.00 euro (ex VAT). Participants of the European tour are required to register for the European Congress.
